The importance of “me time” is as precious as the air we breathe. Me time is about being present with yourself, mind & body. It’s the conscious effort of taking that much needed time-out to find balance with our inner-self. Believe it or not, your body & mind are connected and for them to function properly in sync you must be aligned. When Owner, Jen Doerger of Woodhouse Day Spa in Walnut Creek invited me to experience an afternoon at her luxurious two-story location in the heart of Downtown, I of course couldn’t resist the opportunity.

Self-care is how you take your power back.

Upon arrival into their spacious grand lobby upstairs, I was greeted by the front desk staff which were oh so inviting to say the least. After a quick chat I was escorted through a set of double glass French doors passing by an exquisite water feature. As I made my way through the dim lite hall to the women’s dressing room I was informed that my massage therapist, Adam would meet me across the hall in their quite room.

From inside the dressing room it housed two private bathrooms, a sizable private shower room, and an open locker area with sinks and amenities. As a guest to the spa you are gifted a lovely logo tote bag where you are able to gather all of you belongs in and place into a 4-digit locker. Slipping into one of their plush robes and slippers I freshen up for a quick moment before exiting. When I opened the door there stood Adam my message therapist with a fresh bottle of water. While we made it down a series of closed doors to the one that lead to my private oasis Adam asked a few questions about areas that needed more attention than others in additional to any limitations he should be aware of. I highly appreciated his subtle questions as they elevated the experience, providing me the opportunity to share areas I needed more attention to.

Their 80 minute Deep Tissue Massage ($200) was just what I needed and long overdue. Adam used strategic strokes to increase circulation and release muscle tension with a combination of trigger point therapy, sports massage and other unique modalities working to relieve strain, stress and inflammation. During my massage I laid in a mediation state as the spa music played softly in the foreground, I literally felt myself in a trance of pure tranquility.

I highly recommend Woodhouse Day Spa to anyone that is seeking “me time” and as I previously mentioned above, its something we all need to gift ourselves so why not experience it with Jen and her skilled staff in Walnut Creek.
