As the heat of the day radiates through the afternoon and summer slowly becoming a memory, I find this the perfect time to embrace the 1940’s with a Cartwheel designed hat. For those not familiar with the term Cartwheel, these hats were typically manufactured using straw and an over-sized stiff brim. While this particular style of hat was proven to slim ones silhouette, it was designed to balance a narrow hip.
From bespoke designs to quality craftsmanship I’ve grown fond of millinery designs of the 1940’s. Details of which defined an era having possessed a presence of wealth, class and panache. For example, utilized from the late 1940’s these wide brimmed hat’s had been designed with an inner cap or platform which sat atop the head, which in return held the brim up above ones forehead. While many designs of this era where fitted to sit straight across I personally find a sixty percent degree angle to clepe the curve of the brim to meet ones taste, rather than being worn at the rear of one’s head in the manner of a Halo Hat. These hats unfortunately are no longer an essential accessory for daily wear, they have become vintage collectibles.
I have written multiple times in the past of my ambitious desire regarding Dior’s “New Look” of 1947, which became the new form for a woman’s ensemble. Once again, the Cartwheel hat in the autumn of 1955 particularly found itself associated with Dior’s Y-line Collection. A trademark of Dior’s sumptuous Y-Collection can be viewed as I’ve reinvented such a look utilizing the vintage Cartwheel hat, heirloom roped pearls and a broad shoulder pencil dress garnished with a causal pair of daywear gloves.

Corset training is a disciplined act of history which definitely provides a slimmer waist line not to mention proper posture.
Possessing a natural hourglass figure I have longed to garnish myself with the training of a corset for proper posture. From towering heights of five feet and approximately eleven inches I have found a new form of confidence from receiving an authentic bespoke black satin draped steel boned corset. With a sensation of eagerness upon its initial delivery, I swiftly began to lace up the fourteen eyelets as I quickly grew fond of it’s ten spiral steel bones and steel busk. From my initial trial I found myself gradually progressing the duration of constant wear, from a start time of sixty minutes to an extended time of two hours. I had personally discovered the beginning of a gradual change to the ideal appearance of a trained waist line. I found the timely experience to be preferred where I will continue on a vintage journey with one thing to remain an hourglass figure.

While fashion choices had changed in the 1930’s, it fundamentally became the inspiration for a new decade. From an era that unfortunately doesn’t receive the recognition it well deserves, it’s undeniably noted that without the thirties where would the fashion world be in current years.
In this month’s issue of Vintage Affair Magazine, I contribute as a historian of vintage panache by permeating a sense of style from the 1930’s. As you read the editorial you’ll capture the lighthearted approach of the forward-thinking ambitious women of the late 1920’s lingering into the 1930’s. What is also interesting in this golden era of style is by far the return to a more genteel, ladylike appearance that had become the model in the days society through 1936. I find the style choices of this particular era to be utilitarian yet glamorous.
